Nicki Minaj's Hair for American Idol

Nicki Minaj’s hair for American Idol has already made a statement … and it’s only the first stage of the auditions. Nicki Minaj has only just been confirmed as a panelist on the US talent show, where she will appear alongside diva Mariah Carey. Both ladies have completely different styles, so it will be pretty interesting to watch them battle it out in the style wars.

For the first auditions, Nicki Minaj’s hair was worn with loads and LOADS of voluminous curls … her hair was a melting pot of shades with bright yellow, pink, and orange thrown into the mix! Whatever you might say about Nicki Minaj, she certainly knows how to stand out and ensure she gets herself noticed. Kudos to her for that!

Mariah Carey’s hair was more glam as she wore a centre parting and her blonde locks styled into loose waves. We’re loving the length of Mariah’s hair at the moment and we look forward to seeing the styling throughout the series.
Mariah Carey matched her hairdo with a black mac worn over a simple black dress … her black peep-toe heels were absolutely gorge!

To re-create this look, use your curling tongs through the mid-lengths and ends of your hair and gently brush through the curls.

Nicki’s outfit was somewhat toned down by her standards! The star wore baby blue fitted cropped trousers, a multi-coloured crop top, a white blazer, and turquoise boots with a killer heel! What a contrast to Mariah Carey’s appearance!

We’re quite intrigued to see Nicki Minaj’s hair for American Idol, as well as her style choices, throughout the series, but we’re looking forward to Mariah’s looks too. What do you guys think? Tell us below or on Facebook.

Bouffant Ponytail

So with many of you going back to school and the Fashion Weeks beginning, we thought we’d come up with a hair tutorial that intertwines both aspects, so say hey to the bouffant ponytail!

Bouffant Ponytail

This hairstyle is a perfect combination of Fashion Week hair trends and an easy peasy hairstyle that you can quickly do before school or work for a super chic look! Perfecto! We’re going to be styling the bouffant ponytail low as we love it this way, but you can wear it higher if you like.

Bouffant Ponytail

Step One:

If your hair is a little on the short/thin side be sure to fit your hair extensions before you start this hairstyle to add extra length and thickness. Ensure that your extensions are not fitted higher than the top of your ear as you will need to backcomb the top section of the hair later on!

Step Two:

Once you have fitted your hair extensions, you need to backcomb the top section of your own hair to create the bouffant to add that Fashion Week vibe into your hairstyle! Taking your comb/backcombing brush, start at the back of your hair near to the crown. Use your comb to section off the top layer of hair and backcomb the section underneath; once backcombed, spritz with hairspray and leave to dry before brushing it down (be warned, it may look a little wild whilst you are backcombing, but the end result will be super smooth). Backcomb the top section but do this quite lightly as this section will be used to smooth over the backcombed section underneath. Repeat this step on both sides ensuring the top section of hair is backcombed lightly so the overall look of the hairstyle is nice and smooth.

Step Three:

Now that your hair is backcombed and the hairspray has set, all that is left to do is to pull it back neatly into a low ponytail. Use your backcombing brush to smooth out any fly-aways whilst you are pulling it back and secure in place with a thin hair band.

Step Four:

You then need to take a small strand from the underneath of your bouffant ponytail and wrap it around the base of your ponytail so the hair band is hidden. Secure this piece of hair again underneath the base of the ponytail with a bobby pin.

Step Five:

This next step is optional (and if you have time before school hehe) but we just LOVE adding some soft curls throughout the ponytail to thicken it up even more and add extra texture! Be sure to be SUPER careful when doing this as you don’t want to mess up your bouffant so curling with curling tongs may be easier as it won’t pull on your hair as much. :) Brush through the curls to soften them for a boho chic look.

Finally, to finish off, gently pull a few pieces of hair down to frame your face and voila! You’re ready to go...♥

So what do you think of this bouffant ponytail hairstyle ladies? We think it’s perfect for school, date nights, or a catch up with your girl friends! Let us know your thoughts on Twitter and if you re-create this hairdo we’d LOVE to see some piccies!!

Celebrity Hairstyles at New York Fashion Week

We’ve been LOVING some of the celebrity hairstyles at New York Fashion Week almost as much as the runway shows!! Here’s the lowdown on our faves.

Victoria Beckham’s hair has been looking gorgeous for her appearances as she’s launched her collection at New York Fashion Week. Her hair has been worn long with an on-trend centre parting and loose waves. We are really liking her hair this length.

Celebrity Hairstyles at New York Fashion Week

Another of the celebrity hairstyles at New York Fashion Week that caught our eye was worn by style queen Tyra Banks. She wore her bobbed hair in a voluminous style with curls that were full of body and lots of root lift. Wow, her hair was big! We were loving the deep side parting and the sweeping side fringe. It's great to see the big hair trend still going strong!

We ADORED Tamara Ecclestone’s BIG hair at NYFW. Her hair was very Kate Middleton and we just loved the loose curls and the gorgeous volume. She also looked stunning in her tight-fitting, high-waist burgundy skirt which she teamed with a snake print top.

Celebrity Hairstyles at New York Fashion Week Tyra Banks

Kelly Osbourne has been sporting a variety of celebrity hairstyles at New York Fashion Week; Kelly is still sporting the granny chic hair trend so her lilac locks were styled into an updo with lots of root lift and a deep side parting; she teamed this look with a bright orange jumpsuit and jacket.
Kelly Osbourne’s hair was also styled into a voluminous half-up half-down style for Fashion Week. Her fringe was styled back over the bouffant-like section on the top of her hair. We are loving this look on Kelly.
Less successful was Kelly’s crazy twisted updo which she teamed with a neon outfit. We admire her for trying a style that makes her stand out from the crowd, but we’re really not keen on this look on the star. Sorry Kelly, it’s a thumbs down from us.

Celebrity Hairstyles at New York Fashion Week

And last, but by no means least, another of our fave celebrity hairstyles at New York Fashion Week was worn by the lovely Whitney Port. Whitney, who was also showcasing her own collection at Fashion Week, looked absolutely stunning as she attended the BCBG Max Azria show last week. Whitney Port’s hair was styled with a centre parting and her blonde locks were worn long and loose. She wore a simple long navy silk skirt with a black crop top and she looked fantastic. This lady can do no wrong!!

We’ve loved keeping an eye on the runway and the celebrity hairstyles at New York Fashion Week and we’re super excited for London Fashion Week too.

Which celeb has worn your fave look to Fashion Week so far? Tell us below or on our Facebook page.

Red Carpet Hairstyles

The MTV music awards are known for not being a normal run of the mill award show, with many outrageous style choices and red carpet hairstyles on show! Surprisingly, this year there were many more elegant and traditional red carpet styles with the outrageous and crazy left to just Nicki Minaj!

Red Carpet Hairstyles Demi Lovato

One of our favourite looks of the night was worn by Demi Lovato! She kept her red carpet look very young by teaming a sequined skater style dress with a studded leather jacket! Her hair was tousled with a slight wave and gave a rocker feel to the overall look. Demi was later presenting an award and this of course meant a change from the red carpet look she had been previously seen in. Demi Lovato’s hair had been given more of a neat wave and her hair was swept to the side giving a much more demure look than on the red carpet. We can’t wait to see the styles Demi will be wearing as X factor USA prepares to launch!

Red Carpet Hairstyles Rita Ora Hair

Rita Ora made an appearance at the awards show to present the award for Best Male Video, which she presented with Demi! Rita’s red carpet look was a little different; she chose an Emilio Pucci body jewelled suit. Known for her urban styling, the look was very fitting for her. When Rita took to the stage to present the award to Chris Brown she had changed into a very elegant Stéphane Rolland couture gown. The fringed shoulders and the belt detailing maintained her edgy feel. Her super blonde hair had been styled into vintage inspired waves which looked fantastic as one of the MTV music awards red carpet hairstyles.

Red Carpet Hairstyles Rita Ora's Hair

Our fave of the red carpet hairstyles was worn by Katy Perry. She also looked incredible in her outfit ... she wore an Elie Saab Couture floor length gown that had stunning red and turquoise flower detailing. LOVE it! Katy, who has returned to her most famous black locks, also styled her hair with vintage inspiration. To create the look of Katy Perry’s hair you will need to use a large barrelled tong! Once you have fully curled your hair use a soft brush and gently brush out the curls. Add a little serum to your fingers and run this through the front of your hair to create the shape.

Red Carpet Hairstyles Katy Perry's Hair

Taylor Swift took a different approach to red carpet glamour … she instead opted for a classy J Mendel off-white trouser suit amongst a sea of floor length gowns. She also chose to wear her long hair and bangs super straight. We are so used to seeing Taylor Swift’s hair worn wavy, so we’re not sure this is our favourite look on her but it worked perfectly with her outfit as one of the night’s red carpet hairstyles.

Which of these red carpet hairstyles was your favourite for the MTV Music awards? And whose outfit were you loving most? Tell us below or tweet us.

Celebrity Hairstyles at the Toronto Film Festival

We’ve been LOVING some of the celebrity hairstyles at the Toronto Film Festival this month; there have been some gorgeous updo’s and downdo’s from the lovely ladies on the red carpet … here are a few of our faves.

Amy Adam’s hair looked incredible for the premiere of ‘The Master’ at the Toronto Film Festival last weekend. The actress wore a black Marchesa frock and her hair was styled into an elegant bun. Her bun was styled low with a centre parting and it was worn sleek … we love this look on her.

Selena Gomez had some gorgeous celebrity hairstyles at the Toronto Film Festival too; we loved her hair for the ‘Hotel Transylvania’ premiere. Selena Gomez’s hair was worn shoulder length with an off-centre parting and on-trend, voluminous curls. She teamed her style with a stunning gown from Alberta Ferretti’s Fall 2012 collection. We approve!
Selena wore her hair similarly for the photocall of ‘Spring Breakers’ on Friday afternoon, but completed this look with a sexy leopard print fitted frock from Dolce & Gabbana. If you fancy creating this red carpet look then pop in your 12-14” hair extensions to add volume for this style.

The actress opted for an updo for the premiere of ‘Spring Breakers’ at the Toronto Film Festival; her hair was waved and pulled back into a low style at the nape of her neck with a strand of waved hair left loose to frame her face. So pretty.

Celebrity Hairstyles at the Toronto Film Festival

Many of the celebrity hairstyles at the Toronto Film Festival this year were elegant updo’s as we spotted Emily Blunt with a sleek updo and Naomi Watts’ hair was slicked back into a low side bun too. These are perfect looks for the red carpet and looked gorgeous on the ladies.

Our fave look from the Toronto Film Festival was worn by the lovely Keira Knightley; her hair was also styled into an updo, but she had a gorgeous side sweeping fringe which really finished her look beautifully. We’re also a little in love with the Elie Saab Couture gown she wore. ♥

So, those were our fave celebrity hairstyles at the Toronto Film Festival, but which was your favourite? Do you agree with our choices or did you spot someone else? Tell us below or leave a comment on Facebook to share your thoughts.

Little Mix Hairstyles for Fiasco

We are a little in LOVE with the 60’s styling of the Little Mix Hairstyles for Fiasco mag … the girls look oh-so-gorgeous and the black and white images are super, super chic!

Little Mix Hairstyles for Fiasco

The girls have moved away from their usual vibrant styling for this shoot for the fashion mag, and although we ADORE their usual look, we are big fans of this 60’s style which has been inspired by sixties icons The Supremes and The Shangri-las.

Little Mix Hairstyles for Fiasco Mag

There’s loads of volume going on for the Little Mix hairstyles for Fiasco and we couldn’t be happy; we love a voluminous hairstyle! Backcomb the roots of your own hair for added oomph like the girls have in this shoot.

Little Mix Hairstyles for Fiasco

All of the girls look absolutely stunning for the shoot, but we have to say, our fave of the Little Mix hairstyles for Fiasco has to be worn by Jade; the half-up half-down bouffant looks incredible. Kudos for this look!

Amelia Lily's Hair

Wohoo the ‘comeback girl’ is back on our screens with her new single ‘You Bring Me Joy’ and we are loving Amelia Lily’s hair!

Amelia Lily's Hair

The teen made a name for herself as she was voted back onto X-Factor after being voted off last year. Although she didn't win, she has gone on to sign a record deal and her debut single is finally getting released in 10 days, and we have to admit, we’ve missed her quirkiness and style a little so we’re happy to have her back on our screens!

Amelia Lily's Hair

With her music video for her debut single ‘You Bring Me Joy’ all over our screens we can’t help but notice the difference in Amelia Lily's hair! Her hair appears much thicker than we last remember from her days on X Factor so it could be said that some hair extensions have been used to create a much thicker appearance for Amelia Lily’s hair … and we are LOVING the new look.

Amelia Lily's Hair

The singer seems to have kept the length of her hair the same however she has opted to thicken it up and we think her new hair looks super gorgeous. We’re loving the blonde shade Amelia Lily’s hair has returned back to too; although we were fans of her candy floss pink hair when she was on X Factor, we have fallen a little in love with her new hair even more. PLUS the candy floss pink shade is still present, it’s just not as extreme and is scattered throughout the ends of her hair. Loving it. ♥

Amelia Lily’s hair would definitely be matched up to our Bunny Blonde shade, so ladies, if you’re looking to recreate this look then look no further as 16-18” hair extensions would be perfect to recreate this look. Simply clip in, add a few curls throughout the ends, leave to set and then gently separate with your fingers for an effortless look.

So then what do you lovelies think of Amelia Lily’s hair? Loving it like us? Have you checked out the video too? Let us know what you think by popping over to our Facebook page or tweeting us @ThisIsHeadKandy.

Boho Chic Waves with Braids or Twists

So, as you know already, we’re a little fond of Blake Lively's hair and the Gossip Girl hairstyles so we thought we’d do a quick tutorial on how to achieve boho chic waves with braids or twists! We think this hairstyle is perfect for festivals and for general day-to-day wear; it’s super easy to do and requires minimal effort.

Boho Chic Waves with Braids or Twists

Step One:

Firstly, if your hair is a little on the thin side, it would be wise to fit some hair extensions to thicken up your hair and to add to the overall look of the hairstyle! Be sure to fit the hair extensions first so you can style them with your own hair for a more natural flawless finish.

Step Two:

Next we need to curl the hair. So take you curling tongs, wand or straighteners (whichever you prefer to create curls with) and get curling! Start from the underneath of your hair and work upwards … you don't need to necessarily curl EVERY piece of hair as we’ll be brushing out the curls later on to achieve the boho chic waves with braids or twists … as long as the majority of your hair is curled all should be well. Make sure you are curling the curls the same way too ... so they are all falling the same way. Generally, curling outwards tends to look better than curling inwards.

Step Three:

Now it’s decision time! Do you want to add braids or twists? Now is the time to decide! If it’s cute braids like Blake Lively then take small sections along your parting and create a simple three strand braid to the ends of your hair. Secure in place with a small hair band. Blake opts to add two braids on one side and one braid on the other, which we think works super well, but if you want to add another braid on the other side, feel free to do so.

Step Four:

So if you’re a unsure about the braids then add twists instead … this is super cute too and a nice alternative to braids. :) Take a small section from the front of your hair on either side, twist and pull back, making sure the twists are above the top of your ear. Secure onto the side of your head with a bobby pin.

Step Five:

Once you have added your braids or twists, it’s time to take your brush and gently brush out the tight curls to create boho chic waves. Start doing this from the bottom up and use your fingers to separate and to add texture too. Be super gentle whilst doing this as you don't want to completely pull the curl out or mess up the braids or twists either. And there you have the perfect Gossip Girl inspired look. :)

What do you think of these boho chic waves with braids or twists, lovelies? It’s super easy isn’t it?! Let us know your thoughts on Facebook or tweet us. AND if you decide to do this hairstyle yourself be sure to send us over some pics so we can take a peek. ♥

Lana Del Rey's Hair in the Jaguar Campaign

We're a little bit in love with Lana Del Rey’s hair in the Jaguar campaign; Lana's hair usually looks stunning when worn in vintage inspired styles, but we have to say that we have never seen it as gorgeous as it is in the sneak peek shots of the new Jaguar F Type promotion. Lana has been announced as the new face of the sports car after being seen driving around in a vintage Mercedes and using lots of vintage cars in her own promotions.

Lana Del Rey's hair in the Jaguar Campaign

The scene has been set for these shots next to an idyllic poolside location with glorious sunshine, and perfect 60’s styling. This styling gives the photos such an individual feel and really makes you wish you could be there with the lovely Lana.

Lana Del Rey's Hair in the Jaguar Campaign

Lana Del Rey’s hair is gorgeously long at the moment and it's a yummy chocolatey brown shade that works perfectly with the white outfits chosen for the shoot. Her hair has been kept the same style throughout the shots; a large, soft waved style has been created in Lana’s hair which looks effortlessly glam. To re-create this style you can use a large barreled tong through the lengths of your hair, you need to curl the hair away from your face to create the gorgeous shape and then use a soft brush to brush out the curls a little. Adding a little backcombing to the roots of your hair will give you the same shape as Lana’s hair.

We love these shots of Lana and we are eagerly awaiting the finished promotion to be released! What do you think of these images? Are you in love with Lana Del Rey’s hair in the Jaguar campaign, just like us? Pop a comment below or find us on Twitter.
