The stars were out in force last weekend for the annual British
Soap Awards 2011; Voted for by the viewers, these awards are considered the
most important by many of the stars and to others the red carpet ‘best dressed’
list is just as important as the awards themselves! With the Corrie, Eastenders,
Emmerdale, Doctors and Hollyoaks girls there is always plenty of competition for
‘Best Dressed’, but here at HeadKandy we wanted to see the chosen red carpet hair styles for
the big night!!
The Hollyoaks girls usually make the headlines for all
the wrong reasons at this event, but this year they seemed to go for a
much more demure style. We noticed this common theme wasn’t just reflected in
their dress choices but also in the hairstyles with the majority choosing
classy updo's!
We are big fans of Rachel Shenton, who plays glamour
model Mitzeee on the show! Her hair always looks gorgeously thick and in great
condition.
For this event she wore a floor length chocolate brown, silk dress that she looked stunning in. She wore her hair swept over in a side pony with big,
bouncy curls. To achieve this look we recommend using large velcro or heated
rollers or large barrelled tongs. A quad weft can add extra volume and bounce
to this style! She completed her look and joined the big hair trend by opting
for a huge quiff… It didn’t quite rival
the heights of Cheryl Cole’s hair or that of Sarah Jessica Parker, but it
certainly gave Rachel Shenton’s hair a few extra inches!

Following in Rachel’s footsteps was Jorgie Porter, who
plays Teresa McQueen. She wore a backless bright turquoise dress (according to
her Twitter she didn’t buy the dress until the day of the awards!! How’s that
for an excellent last minute wardrobe choice?!) Her side pony complemented her
dress perfectly and we loved the leopard print shoes peeping from underneath
Jorgie’s dress. Super cute!!
There were few mistakes in the style stakes from the
Corrie cast ... named as ‘Sexiest Female’ for the 3rd year
running, Michelle Keegan who plays Tina in the soap, arrived looking head to
toe a star! Michelle wore a floor length glitzy, gold beaded dress and she accompanied
this with a simple hair style to pull off the effortless glam look. Her hair
was left down with what appeared to be very little styling. It wasn’t straight
or curly just very natural with subtle oomph at the roots. We loved it!!

There seemed to be some controversy surrounding the
outfit choice by Sophie Powles who plays Holly Barton in Emmerdale. She went
for a rock chick look wearing tights that looked like stockings and hot pants! We
loved her blunt heavy fringe and long curled hair (we’re just not so sure on
the outfit choice!) and this just amplified her rock chick look! To re-create Sophie Powles tousled and messy tresses it would be best to use a medium
barrelled tongs. If you are going to be adding extensions for extra length and volume, it’s
always best to fit your Headkandy extensions first and style your hair and the extensions together
as this will give a much more natural blend and finish.

Natalie Anderson, also from Emmerdale, was dressed very
elegantly and was a stark contrast to many of her co-stars! Natalie’s floor
length lilac gown with sequinned trim and a diamond bow belt was simply
stunning. Her hair looked super glossy and shiny too; she left her style simple
which complemented the elegance of her dress.

Overall the styles seen on the red carpet for the British
Soap Awards were very elegant and demure … with the odd one or two catching the
photographers gaze for the wrong reasons! We loved the hair styles this year and
it’s hard to pick our fave …. But we think the award for best hair should go to
Rachel Shenton who was bang on trend with her volumous locks ... her super quiff was following the big hair trend set by Cheryl Cole last week. We love it!
